Illumina Digital produced the new corporate branding and website design for the renowned publisher, Random House. The flexible functionality of the website allows Random House to create promotional sites for authors and promote book launches alongside their main website. Get Writing

Get Writing

Get Writing is a BBC online community that encourages and supports creative writing. Illumina Digital built the site together with the BBC, and independent production company Preloaded, using the BBC's DNA community software as part of the BBC's cross media campaign to encourage creative writing.

Get Writing won the Royal Television Society award for Best Education Campaign in 2003. In October 2004 the BBC commissioned Illumina Digital to put together a pack to enable members to create and start communities of their own.

Bata-ville

Bata-ville

Client: Somewhere and Commissions East

'Bata-ville - we are not afraid of the future' is a remarkable feature which follows 42 former employees of closed shoe factories in East Tilbury, Essex and Maryport, Cumbria on a coach trip across Europe to the origins of the Bata shoe empire in the Czech Republic.

Bata-ville stars writer and directors Karen Guthrie and Nina Pope as travel hostesses on a journey that sees their passengers reflect on their shared history and what the future holds for them back home.

It is a co-production between Illumina Digital, Somewhere and Commissions East. The Executive Producer is Andrew Chitty, Managing Director of Illumina Digital. Go to website

BBC Editorial Guidelines

BBC Editorial Guidelines

Illumina was commissioned to produce the new online version of the BBC Editorial Guidelines. This is now designed to work for a multimedia world: the Guidelines apply across all BBC content on radio, television, new media, and magazines.

The website includes a key word search, reference areas for advice, links and editorial values as well as a version of the Guidelines specifically for online content.

BBC Ready to Learn

Ready to Learn

Ready to Learn, produced for the BBC, is an set of online video case studies of seven very different people who returned to learning as adults who feel passionately that: 'Learning changed our lives: find out how.' Ready to Learn aims to give the reluctant learner the confidence to give learning a chance with peer-to-peer encouragement. This site aims to engage and motivate potential users and offers learning resolutions to help them overcome their obstacles. Go to website

Illumina Digital developed the new Geography and Design and Technology section for the BBC. GCSE Bitesize is one of the BBC most successful websites getting 30 000 000 page impressions a day during revision period. Go to website

Tobu: Learning Japanese

Tobu: Learning Japanese

Client: DfES

Winner of the 2003 BIMA Award for Best use of Broadband and one of three national pilots for the DfES Curriculum Online project, Tobu is a complete interactive KS3 course for Japanese language learning. Tobu and his gang of friends and family take the user through 12 online learning modules with connected a CD-ROM for the delivery of video assets and a managed learning environment.

Learners can hear spoken Japanese and practise their own speaking voice. There are quizzes to help the learner develop new skills and beautifully designed activities to support understanding of Japanese scripts and worksheets to practise writing skills.

On winning the BIMA Broadband Award the Director of Marketing at BT said of the project: "This site combines a fun interactive approach with easy-to-use navigation and a charming graphic style (sort of Pokemon meets Gorillaz) which must appeal to it's target audience."

Between the Lines for London Gifted and Talented

This learning pathway invites students to examine a range of current affairs media texts from television, print and the web. The user learns how altering words, phrases and structures can alter the shape and effect of an argument. The pathway has it's own specially-designed multimedia tools such as the newspaper page-builder and a video editor for students to produce newspaper pages and video documentaries. Go to website

DfES Standards Unit Success for All

DfES Standards Unit Success for All

Illumina Digital worked very closely with subject teams from the DfES Standards Unit as part of its Success for All programme to transform teaching and learning in the post-16 sector. Illumina produced teaching and learning resources in all media formats including workbooks, board and card games, e-learning objects, and vide for Business studies, ICT, Land-based studies, modern foreign languages and adult and community learning.

The resources are part of a £31 million teaching and learning package to encourage innovative, fun ways students can take active roles in their own learning.

We have produced three extensive rich media resources for Learning and Teaching Scotland which have involved researching and filming in schools all over the country from Glasgow to Orkney, and developing with LTScotland's powerful Tridion content management system. TeachandLearn.net was launched in January 2004 by BBC Worldwide and the Open University - a partnership with over 30 years experience of developing high-quality resources for the UK schools market. It's a website devoted to Continuing Professional Development for schools. Illumina designed and delivered the online brochure and pre-registration part of this project and has been working with BBC worldwide over the two year the project has developed. Go to website

Thematic Networks are a community tool designed to share information on best practice, define and test quality standards and promote the development and exchange of ideas and resources to support gifted and talented pupils through out London.

The RISE site supports the service by offering a Learning passport facility to the learner that allows tracking of course schedules and materials and communication with mentors and Tutors

The site includes links through to some of the Careers Wales tools and resources such as the ePortfolio and a database of courses in Gwent. The site is Welsh and English. Go to website

Clic is the bilingual national information and advice service for young people in Wales aged 11-25 covering all areas of life that matter to them: money, relationships, world issues, the environment and many more

Illumina designed and developed the site which was launched by the Minister for Education Jane Davidson. Illumina are still involved in designing, supporting and developing the site. Go to website

Vitaelity Islington

An e-portfolio and careers' information portal developed as part of the NHS-U Junior Scholarship program and the 14-19 Pathfinder project. The service includes unique interactive career pathways showing clear progression routes into NHS careers and providing information on the courses, qualifications and work-based learning options available in the borough.

This site integrates decision making and action planning tools and a range of self assessments with the Vitaelity TM e-portfolio and provides students with a virtual workspace to record achievements and store evidence of their best work.

The Southwark Guarantee portal is an online service to support and manage flexible learning programs in the London borough of Southwark. Based on the Vitaelity e-portfolio engine, it integrates an existing Southwark Guarantee website with careers' information resources, an e-portfolio and a comprehensive work-related learning management system.

Education professionals and course providers can now share pupil information, download useful documents and maintain timetables showing the availability of courses across the borough pulling together all the elements of 14-19 provision.
